Hospital Price Finder makes US hospital prices searchable. Since 2021, federal rules (45 CFR §180) require hospitals to publish a machine-readable file of their standard charges — gross (chargemaster), cash/self-pay and insurer-negotiated rates. These files are large, inconsistent and hard to use. We collect them, standardize the codes, and present median prices you can actually compare.

What we show

  • Cash / self-pay price — what the hospital charges an uninsured patient paying directly.
  • Chargemaster (gross) price — the hospital's full list price before discounts.
  • Insurer-negotiated price — the median rate negotiated with commercial plans.
  • Medicare benchmark — what Medicare pays for the same service, for context.

All figures are medians across the prices a hospital published, intended for comparison. They are estimates — always confirm with the hospital before care. See our methodology and data sources.
